And I thought I was all nice and ready.... [Aug. 30th, 2005|11:00 pm]
[Current Mood | sad]

So far school has been going alright. My ECE professors have been nice guys. My IPRO professor is incredibly enthusiastic about our project. My physics professor sucks so I won't be seeing him too much. I started work yesterday with Bonnie at the ECE dept. I had to sort out a bunch of keys and finished the job today. And then my day goes to crap.

This summer I started biking again. I take the Lakefront trail all the way to North Ave. beach and back. Its a lot of fun. Now that I'm out of the crappy dorms and in an apartment that's pretty close to school my bike became my primary choice of transportation. It sure as hell beat the train in which it takes half an hour each way between school and home. On bike it took me 10 minutes tops. Today somebody decided to take mine and one of my roommates bikes while they were chained up. All we could do was file a report with the Public Saftey officer. I've had my nice, red, 26 inch Magna Cliffhanger since 8th grade. I loved it. I got used to it. I bought a nice cushony seat (the original one hurt my ass), a safety light set for night riding, and a Master cable lock which failed big time!!!! I loved that bike. It made my commute so short and easy. I got to better know the lakefront with it. Well, whoever has it better enjoy it and better do so out of my sight cuz I'M PISSED!!!

Then again there are bigger problems right now. Like all those people who have lost everything to the hurricane. May God help them through this horrible time.

New life. Don't know what to expect. [Aug. 23rd, 2005|11:17 pm]
[Current Music |Kill Bill vol. 1&2 soundtracks]

First of all...hi everyone that reads this. I don't update often but I do read other people's LJ's frequently to know how they're doing and I comment when I feel it necessary. Things have changed a lot especially with the Morton 2003 crew. I can only say that I see Sam and Mark on some sort of regular basis. I'm so glad for that. Yay Sam!!! Our plans have been working out!! We're on a roll!!!! Nora also joined us a couple of time on those outings. All of them fun :)

Quite often I think about the high school years and about all the people I knew and wonder what those that have completely dissappeared from my life are doing. It's a good thing that I can read about you guys on LJ and know how you are. I wish it would be easy to hang out but life has changed a lot. People have gone off to do their own thing and so have I. We gotta do what we gotta do I guess.

I'm now pretty much settled at my apartment in Bridgeport. I don't regret living in the dorms for the first two years. In fact I think it was a great experience. While dorming I became more outgoing as I made lots of friends pretty quickly especially the guys on my floor. An awesome group. We had a great mix of people. If room and board charges hadn't gone up I might have still been in the dorms. However, I am glad that I moved out of there because now I get to experience something new. Early on I realized how much more you have to take into account in an apartment. I'm living with two friends, we each have our own room, we're all EE majors, and we get along. Its true what one of them said, "Every dollar counts now." I've been spending soo much its crazy. We have to worry about groceries, bills, rent, cleaning the friggin place and buying all the supplies for that. I hope it gets easier as time goes by. I'll be okay though cuz i'm getting some money back from financial aid and I have an on-campus job at the ECE dept. When that financial aid money comes in I'm going on a shopping spree. I need to pay Old Navy a visit and I might purchase a laptop. I also want to bring my credit card balance down to zero.

My dad hasn't been able to go to work since friday because he got a terrible pain in his knee and when he got the x-ray results they told him it was arthritis. He won't be able to go back to work until some time in September when they find out if the cortisone shot was enough to heal it. Today my mom was talking about moving to Georgia where one of my aunts lives because the cold was really going to suck for my dad's knee. She's pretty serious about it. If it turns out being the best for my dad then I'm all for it but I sure as heck am staying here during school. I might even be able to stay when school is out and I get a well-paying job. I'm shooting for an internship next summer.

I decided that I am not going to follow the ECE department's curriculum which would mean that I have to take 17 or 18 credit hours the rest of the time I'm here. Did it last semester and it sucks. I'm only going to be around 14 credit hours like this semester which means that it will take 5 years instead of 4 to graduate. I used to think that taking more than 4 years to graduate would suck but I've completely changed my mind. I'm smart, but engineering is no damn picnic. I don't know how some of these people can double major and still graduate in 4 years. Is that even human? Maybe if I did nothing but study for 4 years I could do it but that's just impossible. So for those of you that won't be class of 2007 either.....let's shoot for 2008!!

Good gracious! I used too many words to say what I've said. If you're read this far you're INSANE and that makes you my friend :D I had other stuff to say but this is way too long and its time for sleep.

update on yahoo incident [Aug. 11th, 2005|09:47 pm]
So I found out why I couldn't log into anything related to yahoo. My aunt and her family stayed at my house for a couple of days until this past tuesday morning. At some point during their stay, my aunt's husband tried to use the internet and couldn't get it to work. So he took it upon himself to call SBC and go through all the stupid stuff they make you do to fix stuff. My dad pays for all that stuff but I handle the main account. Part of what SBC did was reset my password. AAAAARRRGGGGHH!!! Thank you my aunt's husband for "fixing" it. You meant well I guess but next time feel free to let the owners or other people that live in the house know about stuff instead of making calls yourself. Over and out.

You Are an Emo Rocker!

Expressive and deep, lyrics are really your thing.
That doesn't mean you don't rock out...
You just rock out with meaning.
For you, rock is more about connecting than grandstanding.

I think I need a new icon [Jul. 14th, 2005|08:00 am]
[Current Mood | sleepy]
[Current Music |*forgot to turn on music*]

I don't post nearly as often as some people so it took a while to realize that I've been using this Batman & Superman icon for a really long time. Its still cool (thanks Ralf) but its time for something new. I have no idea what. So if any of you icon-makers is feeling a sudden urge to make me an icon I won't stop you. I don't know what I want on it. Actually I do. I want to be surprised. Yay surprises.

So yeah, I'm here at the front desk of SSV North again. Been here since 4AM and I shall remain here till 12 noon. Lovely shift I must say; especially after having gone to bed at 1:30AM and waking up at 3:30AM in order to get here. But I did get to watch Mexico beat Jamaica. Had they lost I would have been pissed.

Today is a big day for me. As some of you know, I won't be living in the decrepit McCormick Student Village of IIT anymore. I'll be living in an apartment about a mile north of IIT with two friends. I'm going with Ben to do some final discussing with the landlady. She's and old lady who wears muumuus and likes to talk a lot and complain about how things have changed and whatnot. As long as we steer clear of her we should be fine. Her husband isn't as bad. He's a nice man. Likes to joke around sometimes. Doesn't complain as much. They have two dogs: a nice one that likes to be petted and another one that, as the landlady puts it, "is a real bitch." (pardon my french). So now come all the worries about furniture, buying food, who gets what room, etc... This sure will be interesting. I'll let you guys know how things go.

I still have about 3 1/2 hours to go at the front desk.

Porque Mexico?!?! [Jun. 26th, 2005|05:15 pm]
[Current Mood | discontent]
[Current Music |Booker T and the MG's - Green Onions]

Well my heart was pounding the entire time from the end of the second half up until the game ended at penalties. It was such a crazy game. Overall it was pretty even. It sure wasn't Mexico's best game. Mexico's defense pulled way too far back after they scored. It's understandable that you want to pull back to keep a tight defense in that situation but in my opinion they were WAY WAY too far back and did't seem interested in attacking anymore. That is certainly not the way to go and I hope they learned from this. I hope they actually try to play against Germany for 3rd place. They have a tendency to slack when it seems to them like the game isn't important enough. Echenle ganas!

At the front desk of SSV South [Jun. 22nd, 2005|08:26 am]
[Current Music |Some Korean dude singing by he front desk]

I noticed a lot of you have been posting about how your summer has been so far. Its good to know a little something since I don't see you guys that often. I kinda wish I had gotten a job closer to home so that I can hang out with my OG's but things turned out the way they turned out. I like having the big room all to myself. Its also really nice to just have to walk 5 minutes accross the street to class instead of having to commute from home on Mondays and Wednesdays. Another advantage....I'm still on my own. I can do my own thing without having to explain myself to anyone (i.e. parents). I do go home whenever I can to take advantage of a home cooked meal that I don't have to pay for but I usually don't stay long since I have to work over here.

Next Monday starts my two week vacation!!!! That will be nice. I'll only have to be concerned with doing readings and homework for my class. History of Latin American Cinema. I realized that the title is kind of misleading. It should be called History and Latin American Cinema. We watch movies based on historical events of Latin America. Its pretty interesting. I realized how little I know of Latin American history :( .

Tomorrow should be fun. We're having our first summer staff cookout and volleyball game. Its going to be student workers against our bosses. They're gonna get crushed, those old geezers.

Anywho, I'm going to take advantage now to do some reading on Zapata for our class today.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I decided to get with the program and get a cell phone. So if you need anything or feel like saying hi ask Jesus, Mark or Karla for my number. Or leave a comment and I'll email it to you. Let's face it, LiveJournal is not the safest place to post those kinds of things. At least I don't think so. Later.

Working tired [May. 27th, 2005|02:58 am]
[Current Mood | tired]
[Current Music |some junk on B96]

So its about 3AM and that meas that I'm 3 8ths done with my door guard shift. Oh man I might take a little nap right here at the desk at some point. Nobody comes around at this time anyway. But then again there is a surveillance camera right above my head and if my bosses catch me sleeping.....not good. So I've been spending these first three hours of my shift comparing family plans from various cellular phone companies. Up until now I've been very much unintersted in getting a cell phone. However the situation for this summer has caused me to seriously consider it. I'm going to spend the greater part of my summer here at IIT away from family and non-IIT friends (basically the Morton East 2003 crew) and I've been finding lately that I'm not too accessible with only the phone line that's in my dorm room cuz if i'm not in my room I miss any calls. And it would be nice to be able to talk to somebody while i'm doorguarding since lately there haven't been too many people online to chat with. And a family plan would be nice since people come and go very often at home and you just sometimes need to reach them for something. It was actually my dad's idea to get a family plan anyway. I know most of you have cell phones. What do you have? What do you recommend?

Oh wow, I just squished some sort of beetle that wandered near me and it made the loudest crunch I've ever heard from a bug. I have to find a new way to stay awake now. Hope you're all sleeping well. Peace.

Oh and for those of you that make icons...I want a new one. Be creative please.

Long awaited return [May. 3rd, 2005|12:14 pm]
[Current Mood | tired]
[Current Music |Radiohead - Go to Sleep]

Perhaps some of you thought I vanished from the LJ world. In a sense I did. I've only really kept in contact with a few people but that does't mean I forgot about the rest of you. So here's a shout out to my favorite homies from Cicero: Samantha, Mark, David, Ralf, Christian, Tavi, Ryan, Gus, Maria, Christina, Liz, Jesus, Danny, Karla, Sheena, Lino (the ho-bag) and anyone else who's name didn't come to mind at this moment. You guys are awesome.

I'm in my last week of classes............YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! Then I have the privilege of getting raped by 5 finals next week. There is an interesting quote outside my door on the dry-erase board left by one of the guys on my floor: "IIT exams ought to be classified as registered sex ofenders." I must say that I agree.

Once I'm done with my last final (mext Thursday) I get to go home and make a trip to Steubenville, OH for my sister's graduation from Franciscan University. That should be fun. I really like the campus. Then I get back to school Sunday night and get ready for my summer job here at IIT. The good part is that its a paid job (or else I wouldn't have even applied for it) but the sucky part is that I'll be spending most of my summer at school. I'm even taking a summer class since I'm going to be here anyway. History of Latin American Cinema. That means lots of movies in Spanish with English subtitles. It sounds interesting so freaken better be since I'm paying good money for it.

There's some briefing on me. Hopefully I'll get to talk/hang out with some of you during the summer. Take care. Give it all you got on finals!!

Just thought I'd share a joke my uncle just told me (some of you may have heard it already. If you don't speak spanish I'm sorry to say that you're missing out. It doesn't work the same if its translated):

Que le dijo un frijol a otro frijol?

Si no nos comen no hay pedo!!!

at home [Dec. 18th, 2004|01:46 pm]
[Current Mood | relieved]
[Current Music |Peephole - System of a Down]

Took my last final on thursday. It was my physics final. It was harder than the three previous test. The professor is full of it. Anyway, at that point I didn't care. I was done at 1:30PM and that's all that mattered. I got home thursday night and saw my family again, including my grandma! There isn't much to tell about Friday. uhm, I drove around some. Oh yeah, I set up a wireless network here at my house. So now I have internet in three computers here at home. Its quite handy. And I got all the equipment for cheap. Thanks to the Black Friday sales.

Today I was shocked to wake up at 12:30. I fell asleep last night at 11PM cuz I had to take my dad to work at 6:30AM. I took him to work, came back, fell asleep again and woke up at 12:30!! I knew I was tired but I had no idea I was that tired. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since this past week has been just about the most mentally strenuous week since I started college. I'm glad most of us are done and are home already (don't worry, you'll be back soon too, Maria). Now to have another series of crazy hangouts...

I hope to see you all soon. Look out for trains.

Me [Dec. 15th, 2004|11:54 pm]

Your Dominant Intelligence is Logical-Mathematical Intelligence

You are great at finding patterns and relationships between things.
Always curious about how things work, you love to set up experiments.
You need for the world to make sense - and are good at making sense of it.
You have a head for numbers and math ... and you can solve almost any logic puzzle.

You would make a great scientist, engineer, computer programmer, researcher, accountant, or mathematician.

According to this, I'm at the right school.

That's right. You're all a bunch of SUCKERS!! Well, maybe not all of you. Anyway, this just randomly popped in my head and I had to type it out.

I hope you are all healthy (or recovering quickly [Octavio]). The semester is almost over. Just hang in there guys. We all get really homesick towards the end of the semester but remember, its not over yet. Take care, people. I miss you and can't wait to see you.
